“Enrichment” flows both ways

Dear Friends of SSEF (South Sudanese Enrichment for Families),

A celebration of the Lost Boys and Girls in Massachusetts will take place Saturday, May 17, 2025. at Arlington Town Hall, 6:30-10:00 p.m.

We want to celebrate the connections of the SSEF community and friends! Please use the link below to share your stories, memories and photos with us - the lessons and love given and gained over 25 years!

SSEF grew out of the concern for the resettled “Lost Boys” and “Lost Girls”. The volunteers and allies who assisted the youth- and then their families- have grown and learned along with them.

So many of us have stories to tell about the young people who came here from South Sudan, some as long as 25 years ago! As we prepare for the 25th-anniversary celebration of the “Lost Boys and Girls” in Massachusetts, we’re reaching out to get your perspective on these young people who became part of our lives.

How have the South Sudanese impacted your life?

Ponder the question and then write us your thoughts, any length, (up to 750 words). 2 volunteers will review your submission

Please use this link to submit your story by Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

We will compile your pieces in time for our 25th-year celebration, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Arlington, Massachusetts (save that date!). We may even read aloud an excerpt of your submission at the event. We are also asking the Sudanese to tell us about what it was like coming to Massachusetts and about their hopes and dreams for their children.

Some details about this project:

  1. We will edit submissions for spelling, punctuation, and font only.

  2. Submissions will be shared with those who attend the celebration and will be posted on the SSEF website.

  3. SSEF reserves the right to use these written pieces to benefit SSEF programs and/or ACE (African Community Education) in Worcester, Massachusetts.

  4. Submissions can be up to 750 words.

  5. Deadline is Tuesday, April 15, for written submissions.

  6. As appropriate, we may change the name of the South Sudanese.

  7. Please sign your submission as you want it to appear (first and last name, first name only, anonymous).

Thank you for engaging in this memorable milestone for the South Sudanese.
